Cruising the Sounds
Entry 13 of 26 | show all | print this entry |

We got up very early to see the entry into Milford Sound. The clouds were very low and visibility wasn't good although the sun did come through the clouds occasionally.
We were told that it rains more than 200 days a year in this area so it wasn't surprising. The scenery was most impressive, with high cliffs and waterfalls, and the sea was calm in the sound.
When we left the sound and went out into the open sea, the waves were very high. When we went back to our cabin the glasses had fallen from the table and broken on the floor. We sailed into Doubtful Sound and into calm water again, but the visibility was not much better. We did see albatrosses and gannets and some dolphins followed the ship.
Dusky Sound was the last one we went into. It was a bit clearer there, but the scenery was not quite as spectacular.
We had a good dinner, as usual, but the show was a bit disappointing, it was Broadway songs and dancing.
