Hobart Tasmania

We got up quite early and were surprised to see two other cruise ships in port, the Sapphire Princess and the Crystal Serenity. Hobart was very busy. We took the free shuttle into town, it took only about five minutes. We went to the information centre, then walked around the docks.
We explored an interesting sculpture commemorating Antarctic Exploration, then walked up the main street. We bought postcards, wrote them in an outdoor cafe then posted them at the post office. We bought tickets for the 2pm bus tour, then went into the museum. The exhibits were varied, featuring native people, the convicts who first settled in Tasmania and Antarctic explorers, many of whom set out from Hobart. We didn't have time to see the Art Gallery, which was in the same building because it was time for the bus tour.
The bus took us around the town, to the Brewery, Botanical Gardens and the Womens' Factory (really a prison where the women were made to work under brutal conditions.) The commentary given by the driver was very informative and he had a good sense of humour.
We returned to the ship in time for afternoon tea, welcome since we had missed lunch. We were the last of the three ships to sail, leaving about 6:45. We had dinner, went to the show then bed about midnight.
