We are staying in South Beach which is the main area for beaches, restaurants, clubs. We are across the road from the beach and the water is just amazing Luke warm so warm enough to dive straight in but cool enough to still be refreshing.
The NBA final was an unbelievable experience the atmosphere was so much more than the last game we went to and it was more enjoyable being a Miami home game and being able to get into it together and cheering with everyone. The stadium has a big outdoor beer garden that overlooks the water they had a band playing before the game revving everyone up. We spotted Drake and Usher on the court side seats but we couldn't distinguish who anyone else was!
Miami won and the last minute of the game was the loudest and most exciting minute- everyone was up on their feet screaming
Leaving the game people and traffic was insane. People banging pots with wooden spoons (god knows where they even got them from) there were conga lines going on it was just ma'am. The main roads were blocked off cause there were too many people around for cars.. Getting a cab from the stadium would have been ridiculous so we decided to walk to a quitter area and hopefully pull a cab coming in.
After walking for a bit we asked a man where would be the best road to get a cab from in asking us where we we're heading he said we are going in the opposite direction and are a couple of streets away from a very dodgy area. He ended up saying to come with him to his car and he would drive us to south beach because he doesn't think we should be in this area alone ha, what a nice man!!!
He took us back to the main strip near our place and back through the traffic what was about a 15minutes drive took well over and hour- bet he was regretting his kindness now!!! During the drive his wife called at least 4 times she was angry he picked up strays and asking where he was and checking up saying 'be careful, you don't know who these people are' he was laughing saying we were his friends!
There are two islands in Miami where all the stars have their houses. There is a bridge that goes across to each island and is lit up with big lights the whole way down. The public are not allowed over to these islands it is only for the people that live there or if you have an invitation to come across by someone who lives there.
We have walked around a lot it's really nice at night the temperature is more bearable and there is lots going on. We watched a drag show on the street and ate takeaway dinner on a bench by the water.
We also went out for dinner which was very nice and had massive cocktails they were ridiculously huge!
Sunday was time to leave, we hired another car and headed south through the Florida Keys. We were told about these islands from someone on one of our flights. The drive is great once you are out of Miami it's one straight narrow road that is mostly bridges that's take you through each town with water on either side of the ride. There are no streets down here it is just that one road up and back with the houses and resorts on either side by the water.
Our resort has its own marinas and you can hire canoes and bikes to ride around. The pool is really nice and right by the water. Our room has ocean views from the front door and bedroom window and from the balcony at the back - its really nice.
We went to a place where you can pay to see and feed Tarpon fish from a little pier
It was here we booked a private charter. It was a 4hour tarpon and shark charter - we were after the Tarpon. Our captain was nice and we didn't go to far out. The weather and conditions were great.
We were fortunate enough to hook two tarpon, they were both huge and put up a big fight jumping a meter out of the water and swimming crazily, but unfortunately they ended up getting off the line :(
We still had a great time and caught 2 spinner sharks which we were told are quite hard to catch and they both also out up a decent fight (My arms were dead afterwards and still quite sore- weak!!) we caught another 2 sharks which we can't remember what sort and also a humongous turtle which was really heavy but mark did a great job bringing him in!!
The last island of the keys is Key West. We drove out there and had a dip and found the big marker which is at the most southern point of Florida - the line was so long to take a photo next to it - ain't nobody got time for that when there is beach around - seeing it was enough for us!!
On the drive back we had Maccas and I just need to make note for my own memories that the McDonald's soft bake choc chip cookies are the best things I have ever had!!
We are now leaving to drive up to Orlando and visit Disney Land then will be driving up to Daytona Beach where Nicole (my Canadian friend) will be flying down to meet us at her family condo.
Miss you all
