Where I stayed
Apina Tapuna Hostel
Liz managed to stub her toe on a rock in the darkness, so we now had matching big toes, cause I managed it at the beach the previous day! Think she was jealous...
We took up positions with the other thirty or so folks (and several hungry dogs, which Liz might have had to feed!) and waited. The sunrise was good but not quite good enough, so I vowed we would hire a jeep and do it again in slightly more comfort the next morning. The photo's came out amazingly though. Our little camera did the dawn colours a little justice and are really cool.
Soooo, much to Liz's disgust I made her get up again the following morning and do it all over again!
In the dark I bumped (not quite literally) into the guide 'Mark' who operated out of our hostel and he very kindly included me in his tour of two other chaps. Thanks Mark! Much appreciated.
So the boy antics started!! Looking for the perfect facebook profile picture! Naturally there was much leaping off things. But don't worry I didn't miss the sun-up and got the pictures to prove it. We had a beautiful clear morning and the sun absolutely blazed as it cam up between the statues! Mark said it was really rare to have such a clear morning. Yeyah!!
The afternoon saw us at the beach, enjoying the rays and the warm pacific ocean.
Its a funny old place Easter Island, quite randomly (which somehow seems perfectly normal) a local chap in a not much but a loin pouch, sauntered across the beach, moved a couple of sunbathing tourists and proceed to climb a palm tree bare foot... Like you do...
Coconuts started falling like rain. Down he came and started opening them for people to try. then he sauntered off...
