Where I stayed
La Senda Verde Animal Sanctuary
James and I had already decided to stay a night here at La Sende Verde Animal Sanctuary, but it was so amazing we stayed two instead. Also I should mention for posterity that I ate an evil pickled gherkin (bought in Oruro) that poisoned me the whole of the first night – my first complaint of the trip!! Oh well, free colonic I suppose :) The people were so good to me, asking me how I felt, making me tea to soothe my tum.
So now the interesting bit, the animals! They have two spectacled bears (both saved from the meat trade), a 5 yr old male called Aruma, and a baby female newly arrived. They have four breeds of monkey, all seized by Animal SOS or the police, including Capuchins, Spider monkeys, Howlers and Squirrel monkeys
The pictures say it all really, the Spider monkeys (particularly the juvenile male “Cocao”) were so cuddly, and they came down from the trees to see you. The Howler babies were so cute and naughty. The Squirrel monkeys loved play-fighting in my scarf. My favourite though had to be “Flower” (as I called her) the Coty. She curled up on my lap and fell asleep, OMG how gorgeous! This place is awesome, if we had more time we would have stayed and joined the team of volunteers for 2 weeks, all backpackers like us who did the WMDR and discovered this gem at the end of it.

PS: Just to clarify Liz writes the words and James spends hours doing the technical grind. Just in case you thought I was sat on my hands!! - JJ
