Where I stayed
Top 10 Akaroa
What I did
Black Cat Cruises
Akaroa was originally found by the French, but after one too many vino's the English (bitter enemies at the time, best friends now...) over heard the chat and beat them back and staked our sovereigns claim on the land. Bad luck France, but we did let them stay, hence the Gallic influence.
Akaroa harbour could be in the south of France, with its Boulangerie and Patisserie on the high street. A really pretty village where we headed out of for a cruise around the harbour.
After several days of bad weather, the sun was out as we set sail
Before European humans arrived the whole place was densely covered in trees, some of which the Maori used to build there boats. Gradually native tress are being re-introduced on areas where farming is not happening, but unfortunately it will never return to its original state while we are around.
We also saw Hectors Dolphins, jumping and riding the bow wave of the boat. They also blatantly had it off in the water in front of it. Apparently they like a lot of nooky. About 30 times a day!! Lucky buggers.
Consequently we saw a baby swimming with its mum - hence the title of this entry.
