Adrian (our guide) picked us up at 2pm from the hostel in the 4x4 and drove us inland, stopping to see wallabies and many of the native birds in the area. We then headed up the mountains into the rainforest where the trees turn from predominantly gumtree to a mixture of vegetation, all racing for the sunlight. We stopped at a tearoom for a "devon cream tea" would you believe it! Not a bad attempt, and they did get the jam and cream the right way round!

Next stop, a swim in the lake, well Adrian went in but after telling us the story of a German tourist who got eaten by a croc, we just paddled! Then platypus in the wild! They are soooo much smaller than I expected, smaller than an otter, very cute! We had some dinner as the sun went down and then we got out the spotlights to go find some nocturnal animals.

First animal to appear was a one-eyed bandycoot, or bandy-cute as I now call him J He ran right in between James' legs, a real hold your breath moment! Next was a mother and baby possum in a tree just above our heads, really lovely! We went on to see a very large toad (that did a wee on Adrian), an enormous fig tree (that looked right out of a horror movie in the dark), more possums, a white-tailed tree rat (how cool is that!), baby turtles, wait-a-while vine (nasty stuff!) and a huge crater formed from steam blowing from underneath granite (apparently the sound would have deafened you up to 100 km away)!

Thanks so much to Adrian for staying out over an hour extra for us, and for the glass of port before heading home. We got back to the hostel at nearly 1am.
