We arrived full of trepidation into the Cruz del Sur bus terminal, having heard many a horror story about the city's taxis and robberies. We managed to find a radio taxi where the driver had an official badge and then headed straight into Lima rush-hour for our hostel, the number 1 hostel in Peru 2011.

The place was a bit like Fort Knox to get into (but so was everywhere else) but the staff were amazing and we even had pisco sours every evening. We awoke the next morning full of intent as we had to get to the Cuban Embassy for our travel visas. We decided to walk and the hostel owner, Francis, gave us directions. It took about 30 minutes but on arrival everything went smoothly and we headed back via McDonalds, Dunkin Doughnuts and probably the only Russian hairdresser in Miraflores so I could get a much needed haircut!  [JJ - at 20 times the price of mine in Cusco!]

We had promised Ivo and Andrea (from Colca Canyon trip) we would be at their flat around 3pm so we packed up and walked to the coast. Their flat is huge (3-bed, 2-bathroom) with an amazing view of the sea. We had some salsa lessons in the afternoon and then Ivo cooked us Thai soup for dinner before drinking much Cuba Libre and then heading out to "Son de Cuba" for some dancing. We tried a few places first but ended up in the salsa club, which was really busy and had two live bands over the course of the evening. We left about 3am and headed back to the flat.

Next morning (not very early) we decided to take a walk all together along the coast, passing through a great shopping mall for lunch in Miraflores, and then into Barranco for ice cream and coffee. We caught a taxi back and had pesto pasta for dinner before leaving our wonderful hosts and heading back to the hostel for our big bags.

A few hours later we were on the plane headed for Easter Island, I don’t remember the flight at all as I slept the whole way, but James got some blogging done.  :)
