So, after some research and chatting to fellow travelers we discovered that heading south to Torres Del Payne was a particularly expensive business with tours starting from US$2000.  If we'd gone it alone camp sites were priced at US$52, to sleep in a tent!  Ouch!

So as I'd like to go see icebergs one day, we put this part of our trip on hold and decided to head to Buenos Aires, via Mendoza which was getting rave reviews for it vineyards and a rather cool looking hostel for New Years eve.

The coach took us from Santiago to Mendoza through the Andies mountain range.  The Argentine boarder check point was so high up that I was actually aware of how thin the air and had to breath harder to catch my breath.  Weird.

Check out the pictures and this link to google maps for our 24 hairpin assent into the mountains! - click here

The views were spectacular and I hope I do New Zealand no dis-service but it was much wilder in places.

Safely through to Mendoza we found Hostel Lao not far from the bus station and new friends.
