Where I stayed
still home!

We applied for our visas 6 weeks ago now. In May, that felt like such a big and immediate step. Already? What about our great American summers? We will have to jam everything we want to do into June! Well we did, and here we are into July. We've gone up north, we've made it through 2 swim meets, we've had our farewell party, we've been to the zoo, the museum, the parks, the backyard, and anywhere in between.

So now what? We wait.

Our calendar is beginning to look eerily empty, as are our kitchen cupboards. We know the time will approach soon, but we are on pins and needles as to when, and how quickly we will be able to get our stuff in order and make the big move.

What big move? My husband works for a cement company in Dundee, MI. It is owned by a Swiss company that has requested his assistance on a legal project. As a professional, and as a family, we all saw this as an excellent opportunity to learn, grow, and have the adventure of a lifetime.

Once our visas arrive, we will go to Zurich, and stay till the end of the year. We hope to explore many European customs, traditions, and cultures while we are there. We hope to learn to communicate in Swiss-German, make new friends, and not feel too overwhelmed by the cultureshock that living a non-American life for a while will offer us.

As for now, there is little I can do...

I'll check over the stash of items I have already started to gather for the move: do I have everyone's ski jackets? Are 4 boxes of cocoa wheats going to hold us for 5 months?

I'll hope to heavens that the amazing apartment in Hoengg neighborhood is still available, even though the listing is mysteriously missing from the database.

I'll make a few calls about caring for our home and belongings while we are gone.

And I'll do my thing as a mom -- take the kids to the pool, water my vegetable garden, and try to figure out what's left in the cupboards for dinner
