HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY!!!

WOW! All I can say is wow! Last night was so cool but first I'll get you up to date with the last few days!

On Saturday night we headed out with the facebook crew. We went over to their hostel to drink first and got a little tipsy before we went out down George Street to a bar called Scruffy Murphy's.  They had a live band on and it was packed but we found ourselves a nice little dance space and went for it! The band's that play in the pubs out here are fantastic. I've seen a few now and the covers they do are immense! The band ended their set by playing 'Killing in the name of' by Rage Against the Machine. Such an amazing song and we moshed like there was no tomorrow. People around us were looking at us a little strangely when four girls just started jumping up and down like crazy people. After that me and jen decided it was hometime, via the pie shop! We sat in the park to eat them and I was so upset when I dropped half of mine on the floor. Lol! Ah well, it's less calories. After getting back to the hostel about half 3 we collapsed into bed and slept till midday on sunday.

After a massive lie in and feeling like I had been hit by a 10 ton truck (and I wasn't even that drunk!) we had to make a move to go to the supermarket to buy food for our new years eve picnic. We felt so ill we decided the only cure was fast food so we wandered in search of Hungry Jack's, or Burger King to me and you. After making myself eat something we went to Coles, the supermarket and stocked up on sandwich stuff, crisps, pasta salad ingredients and alcohol then headed home.  Spent the evening chilling before the big day.

NEW YEARS EVE
O MY GOSH it was so amazingly fantastic I can't quite describe it. We got up at 7:30am to shower and pack our stuff before we left the hostel at 9am. We had been told to get there really early to get a good spot. We were going to a place called Balmain to the west of the city, to a little place called Peacock Point which supposedly would give great views over the bridge. And DID IT!! We got there after catching 2 buses at 10am and it was pretty empty so we claimed our place near the sea wall. We had a clear view of the bridge and I thought that'll do for me. We couldn't see the Opera House but that was no big deal, the bridge is the main thing and as long as you can see the sky you're pretty much set.

We spent the day sunbathing (some of us too much as I'm a little pink lol) and waiting around reading books listening to music and drinking wine. Because I drank all day I didn't get drunk, but I didn't intend to because I wanted to remember everything!! Jenna's parents and sister joined us about 11am and we all just sat and passed the time as the place around us slowly filled up.  From 1pm things happened on the hour every hour. We saw sky writing that said 'Time Flies', 'Dance 08' and drew hour glasses. The theme for this year was 'The Time of Our Lives' hence the hour glasses. Bi-planes flew over quite often and a tug boat sprayed water jets across the water. At 9pm it was time for the family firework display and it was definitely the best family display I have ever seen and ever will see again! The fireworks barge in front of us exploded, as did the 3 others I could see down the harbour all in unison!!! Fantastic! They went on for about 10 minutes and there was lots of 'ooohing' and 'aaaahing' going on, I just sat there with my mouth open saying 'wow' every now and again. I was awestruck.

After this excitement it was a case of waiting till midnight for the main event. The day had passed quite quickly, we had been sat there for 11 hours by the time the first fireworks went off, but this part of the day seemed to go so slowly. It had got quite chilly and I was glad I'd taken my jumper with me and a hat. After what seemed like forever watching the lit up egg timer on the bridge, it finally happened. Jenna's parents had brought some bubbly with them so we cracked it open and watched the fireworks which were the most spectacular fireworks I had ever seen. They just kept going and going, it was so overwhelming. When the bridge went off I just wanted to cry, it was such a weird feeling. I wanted mum, dad, nic and particularly jack to be with me to see it! The experience was quite possibly one of the best 15 minutes of my life!! I managed to call Jack and Mum and Nic in the time the fireworks were on. Apparently they looked awesome of Sky News!!

After it happened it was strange. We started to pack up and make a move for the exit as we were absolutely shattered! We managed to hike up the hill and get one of the first buses that came along, an idea most people wanted to get in on so it was rammed! We got stuck in traffic getting out of Balmain and it took us about 1 hour and a half to get back into the city, for a journey which would normally take 15 minutes! We walked back from the station and I fell into bed after I gave Jack a quick call.  Wish he was here!

Today I feel like I was drunk when I wasn't! I'm very tired and feel a bit dodgy but think that's from too much sun!! Gonna chill out all day then we're off to Jen's parents apartment for a New Year's Day BBQ. We leave Sydney tomorrow and get to Melbourne on thursday so look out Pete we're nearly on our way!

Love to everyone and happy new year!!
