G'day!

It's sunny today! Hooray! I'm now in Townsville, arrived last night on the greyhound bus after a day's travelling and a little side trip to Tully (yes I know I'm soppy for wanting to visit wher Jack was lol)! Anyway I'm just loading the pics onto facebook now so hopeflly you'll be able to get some idea o our night out in Cairns the other night as I don't think any words would do it justice!

So our last day in Cairns was spent being hungover and wandering around.  The sun was intermittent and it was very humid so we wandered down to the lagoon and the marina which was very pretty and there were lots of people splashing around in the pool. Then we went for tea in the woolshed again as it was free and went back to the hostel where I just crashed out about 9pm! This jet lag malarkey makes me very sleepy in the evening then wide awake about 4 in the morning!

The plan was to catch the greyhound bus from Cairns to Tully, just for a few hours to check out what jack got up to! Not a lot to be honest as it was just like he said, one long street with a few cafes and shops and a couple of pubs.  And it was chucking it down! We went in top pub and got ogled by all the local old men as we sat and had a drink! Then we wandered to a cafe for some lunch! Amusingly (after we had ordered) we noticed a sign on the window stating " Due to recent rumours we feel we should state that it was not our fish that made people ill. I have been in the restaurant business for 15 years and have never poisoned anyone." This made us laugh and we ate our food with gusto anyway! And I'm not ill - hooray! Then we decided to go abnd make camp at the bus stop so we could go wandering in pairs without our bags! This proved uneventful and so we caught our bus at 3:40pm.

After a brief stopover in Cardwell for the driver to have a break he'd been driving since Cairns), we bought a drink and took a few pics and carried on our journey to townsville.Me and mel were amused by the signs regarding driving that said "Drunk? Tired? R.I.P!" Lol! Arriving in the dark at the ferry terminal we rang a taxi to take us to our hostel. The civic guesthouse is lovely with the added bonus of tea/coffee making in our room, tv and a fridge! Bonza! We dumped our bags and headed straight out for some food and ended up in a fairly cheap noodle bar and I had some nice (healthy) noodle/bbq pork soup. Walked back and crashed again about 10-ish (this sleep thing is really annoying lol)!

Today we were up early to re-book our room for tonite and our trip to magnetic island tomorrow. Catching the ferry and staying in the bungalow bay, koala resort with a package deal that includes entry to the koala park and holding of them! Woooop! Can't wait for that slice of aussie-ness! Basically just having a chill out day then we've got a free BBQ at the hostel tonite with crocodile and/or snake holding which i'll be giving a wide berth! Hehehe! That's all for now but thought I'd give u some insight of what I've found out so far:

1. Bloody noisy birds - particularly in Cairns and Tully
2. Shortness of time given to cross the road with green man on - usually you're halfway across.
3. Amazingly friendly people - strangers walking past in the street often stop mid conversation to say "hey hows it going?"
4. Low flying scary things - commonly known as flying foxes or beasties (Catherine)
5. Very straight road system that makes it easy to map read and find your way around!

That's it for now and I hope everyone's ok at home! I'm off to sunbathe!
