After an exhausting 6 wks in Tom Price, I returned to Perth for 6 days of rest and relaxation.
Those who know me well, know that I generally like to keep busy and am not that good at relaxing.  Let me then reassure you that I excelled in the field of relaxation this week!  I seriously did next to nothing – I mostly sat on my ass on Gerry and Jane’s couch and watched Downton Abbey (love it!) and did the online component of my Advanced SCUBA course.

On my birthday, Feb 20th, I skyped with family, opened presents, and met up with some friends for lunch in Joondalup.  We had a delayed dinner with the Scottish Mafia later in the week – it was so nice to see them all.  There were a few other meals out – Mexican in Freo, Indian in Perth, breakfast in Mindarie – I do enjoy eating out!

What else did I do?  I walked the dogs, swam at the beach (really just bobbed in the waves)
and did some laundry and gardening.  That’s it.  Seriously.  I loved it!  And now it’s time to head back to work.  I think the part of work I enjoy the most is vacation!

I hear that relaxation takes practice. Clearly, you need to schedule more practice!

Hi Sparkles, Glad to be catching up with your blog again! I too find relaxation hard and even harder to cycle rapidly between periods of extreme busy-ness and extreme downtime. I think as a defense mechanism when we are extremely busy we convince ourselves that this is what we like and need (otherwise we would hate much of our lives :) ) but then it creates a conflict when we go on vacation and have downtime (at least it does for me) because I am "supposed" to like relaxing but have spent the rest of the year convincing myself that I like/love being busy and stressed out.
Blah blah blah probably inappropriate scope of comment for a travel blog :) but something I have been thinking about lately. I am glad you were able to enjoy your week or relaxing and I hope your next sejour provides a bit more balance.

It was great having you with us for the week. Your cooking efforts were much appreciated. It was a good week just watching you relax. g
