The Budget tour begins...

The first destination on the tour was Otavalo. We stopped en route at the equator (again!) and sadly didn't arrive in Otavalo until quite late, taking out a tv cable as the truck (Moose) was too tall! As it was getting dark and raining we decided not to pitch our tents and instead slept inside an unfinished villa on the site. We went into town and arrived just in time to see the famous market packing away. We had a bit of a challenge to find a taxi driver who knew where our campsite was. We failed and ended up at a hostel in town with the same name so decided to walk back. Unfortunately the campsite was incorrectly marked on our map (on the other side of town!) but I'd remembered some of the street names so eventually managed to convince the others I knew where we were going. Once back at camp we had our first camp meal (and I was in the cook group) which was quite disastrous as the rice was really overcooked and there wasn't enough sauce - but everyone still ate it!
