We had a long drive to Agua Azul waterfalls which were beautiful - a lovely shade of bluey-green. We wandered around the falls taking in the view then went for a swim which was very refreshing as it was such a hot day. We then went to see Misol-Ha which was very high but as it was the dry season there wasn't all that much water coming over it.
We arrived in Palenque that afternoon and the following morning set off to see the ruins. We went inside one of the temples to see a burial chamber and were told it was not going to be open to the public much longer in order to preserve it. We went into the palace which was impressive - it had a gallery where there had been faces of Mayans carved into the rock (they were removed) as well as a tower for star gazing. We also saw a couple of the temples but I was feeling quite ill by this point so didn't climb up them.
I walked back through the jungle with Stuart, who was also unwell, and we hoped we were going the right way as there were very few signs! I almost stood on a snake which scared the life out of me - I don't know what the snake thought but it quickly slithered away! We had a quick look round the small museum which had a few interesting artefacts. Sadly I spent the rest of the day in bed whilst the others investigated Palenque.
