Little Falls is a top five town for this trip. It is located in the gorgeous Mohawk River Valley in upstate New York along the Erie canal. The town itself is small, well maintained, and beautifully carved into the side of a hill. It is home to Lock/Lift 17 on the canal with a near record setting lift of 40.5 feet. We were able to watch them lift a recreational boat in 12.5 minutes. It was impressive. On the way back from visiting the lock we stopped into an ice cream shop called "Old Sal's" where I had, I promise, the best ice cream of my life.

Looking through the freezer window at the 16 flavors, it took me a little while to spot the Mint Moose Tracks. I had to read the card to figure out what it was, since it looked a little chunky for mint chocolate chip, although it had the distinctive color. I asked for a taste but I already had my mind made up - I just wanted an extra bite. First, this is the best flavor I've ever heard of. Imagine Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream where the chips have been enlarged "Greater's style" and mini Reese's cups and Moose Tracks Fudge have been swirled in. It was unbelievable.

I'm excited that we have only four days left on this tour, but I would have loved to re-route a little further north. It pains me that we're skirting just below the Adirondack park and missing all the beauty of that region. I would love to cycle up through it, maybe climb Whiteface for a sense of accomplishment. It would be great to take the ferry across Lake Champlain into Burlington and then ride across Northern Vermont and New Hampshire, through the Whites and Franconia Notch and across Maine to Acadia.  Maybe I'll have to make that my own little adventure some other time.

Four more days and you reach the Atlantic? WOW.

Seems like it was last week when you were crossing Utah!
