The miles went by fast and steadily today as the day got warmer and warmer. There wasn't much in the way of wind in any direction which is perfectly alright with me. For a bulk of the riding we were at or above 20 mph, so not only was this my longest ride, but it was also one of my fastest.
We didn't spend long at any of the support stops because we had one mission today and that was to get to the hotel before the sun melted us into the pavement
Scott got a flat about 10 miles out from the hotel in the heat of the afternoon. We would have been able to fix it quickly and keep rolling but it was a pretty brutal flat. The air escaped so fast I heard it while we were riding. He rode straight over a decent sized nail (I should have taken a picture) that poked all the way through his rim in multiple places. Dad MacGyver'd a fix out of rice krispie treats for glue and chewy bar wrappers and a seal over the hole in the tire (we had to replace the inner-tube of course). The rim was damaged and the rim strip was mangled and the tire of course has a huge hole in it now.
Tomorrow should be a lot like today, but with a few less miles to cover and a much greater chance of terrible weather
