Elko is boring, just like Nevada. There are some nice mountains nearby, the Ruby Mountains. Like every other town, they have a giant E on a hill at the edge of town. I had the worst dinner of the trip tonight - Chicken Milan at Pizza Hut. It's the first meal on this trip that has actually shut down my appetite.

Today had two enjoyable sections. The first was climbing up Emigrant Pass, a 12 mile climb. I really enjoy climbing. It's actually kind of fun - a nice challenge and a great reward. Unlike on flat ground, where pushing harder just gets your more wind resistance and very little additional speed, on a hill, pushing harder gets you up the hill faster.

The second enjoyable section was taking a detour through the Carlin Canyon. It was a short little jaunt, and Nevada doesn't have the prettiest canyons in the world, but it was still a nice ride for a few miles.

Our next two days total over 230 miles. This is going to be hard. Probably the hardest stretch of the entire trip across the country. We'll see how it goes.

Distance: 74.89 mi - 632.94 total
Time: 4:51:55 - 46:02:20 total
Elevation Gain: 2,441 ft - 28,863 total
Av. Speed: 15.4 mph - 13.7 overall
Av. HR: 131 bpm - 132 overall
Calories: 4,589 - 47,629 overall

Only TWO more days and you get to SLC and a rest. Hang in there. Who would believe biking could be so mental. Still praying for a tiny "ahhhh- that is cool!" moment today. Love you Stephen- Aunt M.

Guys, I am enjoying reading about your ride each morning, and am a bit envious of the time you have to do this. I ride a lot, and am impressed with how much you are riding each day. It does take a toll on the legs after a while.
