Oaxaca is one of the coolest cities I have ever been to. Its got European, Colonial, and Latin American influences throughout. The vibrant colors and abundant graffiti are awesome, most of the streets and sidewalks are cobblestoned, the buildings have great colonial architecture, and people are out walking around everywhere.
My tour started out fantastically at a restaurante called 100% Natural. The place was gorgeous, and my food was dee-lish! I decided to take a trip to the bathroom as we were leaving, and the two people I was with were going to wait outside for me... Anyways, you probably know where this is going, I decided to hike back into the corner of the restaurant, where the bathrooms naturally arespecial little something that helps n00bs like me out. Needless to say, I wasn't sure which one I was, so I had to walk all the way outside to ask which one I was, (caballero or damas). It reminded me of the time I walked into the Mongals bathroom at Mongolian Barbeque, thinking it was the way Mongols was spelled. (unlike the door in the link, the Easton restaurant doesn't have the convenient blue sign below!) After not spying any urinals, I realized I was in the wrong bathroom. I promptly ran out and into the other one, cleverly labelled Monguys... hahaha... funny one Mongo.
I then checked out a series of super sweet churches that have been around forever. Combine that with a lot of walking around, and some resting in the shade of the parks, and you pretty much have my day.
This morning, I went to the school I'll be spending a lot of time at, Oaxaca Christian School, for the first time. (p.s. - I have no idea who the people are in the video I just linked to, but I thought it was hilarious.) My room mate (A.T. - more about this awesome guy later) and I were in charge of substitute teaching gym class for first through sixth grade. The wind was blowing at about 20 mph, so needless to say, kickball was fun. We also played a various assortment of "races", "blob tag", "untangle the knot", and ultimate frisbee (but the frisbee eventually got replaced by the kickball due to the wind.)
That's all for now. I gotta get some sleep because I'm waking up at seven tomorrow to go do work at the dump (or something along those lines.)
