I drove the first leg of the trip and after 30 minutes of being scared to death driving this big rig, I got the swing of it and was comfortable being on the open road. It's pretty much like driving a big van except you constantly have to use the huge side mirrors and watch your tail end so you don't swing into anything.
We drove about 6 or 7 hours and ended up near Gatlinburg, TN in the heart of the Smoky Mountains. The main drag in downtown Gatlinburg is alot like Ocean City - family and kid friendly with every other place being either an arcade, go-carts of all types, and laser tag. We switched drivers at the Wal-Mart so that Dan could get us to our resting place for the night and maneuver us into our parking spot.
As we got away from civilization and into the mountains a little more, the views were gorgeous. There are tons and tons of log cabins nestled among the trees all the way through the mountains.
We ended up at a place called Big Meadow RV Camp and got a spot for the night. The woman that owned the place was so nice and walked us through the details of getting ourselves hooked up for the night. Finally we got settled, let the dogs out and had a gourmet meal of hot dogs, macaroni salad, and a few beers before heading in to bed.
Tomorrow - Nashville, TN: Home of Country Music!
