I was sad to leave Nice because I really loved the laid-back, resort feel of it but knew there was tons of good food awaiting me in Italy! On the way we stoppped at the Leaning Tower of Pisa and took the usual tourist photos. We arrived in Florence in the afternoon and went straight to the hotel for some quiet time and to get ready for our Tuscan dinner. Dinner started with an antipasti, then penne and lasagna. Next was a beef with arugula, olive oil, and shaved Parmesan on top. Dessert was an ice-cream cake of some sort. Wine was served throughout, as well as champagne for dessert and an apertif to start. I wasn't feeling so well during dinner, but sucked it up. There was singing and dancing throughout the meal. Afterwards we went to Space Disco, which is a huge club. Inwasnt going to go, but felt a bit better after dinner and was glad I went. We danced the night away, although I took it easy since the next day was a big day. For some reason I couldn't sleep that night, so I was pretty tired for the full day ahead, but the excitement of being in Italy kept me going. We headed into Florence and after a leather demonstration we took a guided walking tour of the area, learning about the architecture and the art. My roommate and I got a bit hungry while the guide was chatting, so we dipped into a Gelateria for some tasty gelato. I had nutella and Christi had white chocolate. After the tour we had free time, so we wandered around the streets and the shops. From here it was about a three hour drive to Rome, where we had another walking tour and dinner before checking into the hotel. Most people took advantage of this time to nap before more walking. It was dark when we got to Rome, but the architecture took my breath away. Our first stop was the Colosseum, which was incredible. From there we walked and saw the Roman Forum ruins, the Piazza Venezia, Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, and the Trevi Fountain. So amazing! From dinner we checked into the hotel, where we had a huge room with a kitchen, living room, and separate bedroom. I took this opportunity to do some hand washing in the sink, then went to bed to get ready for another big day.
