Next morning we left for southern Utah, I visited some of the parks around there about 15 years ago and was amazed at the red/orange/pink rocks and their formations… and guess what, they're still amazing! First stop was Canyonlands National Park where the Green River and the Colorado River converge, both have carved deep canyons with layers of colorful rock. Comparable (in my humble opinion) to the Grand Canyon (which was also carved by the Colorado River). We found an amazing campsite not far from the park entance (out a dirt road that required Rover’s 4-wheel-driveability). It was perfectly quiet and still and the stars were bright.

We ate dinner (curried lentils and rice - delicious) overlooking the canyon when I felt something on my calf, apparently a little kangaroo rat thought dinner smelled good and was trying to get to it. I jumped and scared it off, but it didn’t go far, cute little Captain Kangaroo was sitting in a nearby bush watching, I think my flashlight stunned it, eventually it ran off.

Next morning we explored the park, more amazing vistas and some ancient native American ruins where grains were stored under ledges and sealed with rock and mortar to keep out rain and critters.
