As we've read... no matter where you are... there he is!! It's true, at least in Rio.
Today there was rumor that there were going to be big riots within the city of Rio. All city workers were going to protest. Thankfully they didn't. Sao Paulo.
We caught a bus right outside our apartment to get to Christ the Redeemer. The only excitement was when our bus driver came so close to the bus on the right that he took off his own mirror and damaged the other! We both pulled over for about 5 minutes total... that's it!! No paperwork or discussion.
Uneventfully, we took a bus to the mountain, and then boarded a electric tram to the top of the mountain
Honestly, Christ the Redeemer is more amazing from all other spots in Rio. Up close, his size is impressive, but doesn't have the impact that it does from all the other viewpoints of the city. Just my opinion....
After dinner, we headed to the Lagoa (lake) to decide if we wanted to rent bikes and ride around the lagoon. We decided not to, but headed for Ipanema to eat dinner and cruise the boardwalk.
After dinner, on our walk home, we saw a few REALLY tall WHITE guys walk by. Stace realized that they might be volleyball guys, stopped one and figured out he knew him. Matt Fuerbringer was the assistant coach and told us the national team was playing here in Rio. The tournament is the very important FIVB World league and is a qualifying tournament for the Olympics. What are the chances????? He says that he might be able to get us tickets for Saturday!
Another fun day. What a coincidence...
