We spent most of today travelling and after taking 3 buses, 1 taxi and 2 cars were finally at the beach. Highlights included a bus which arrived when I had gone to the nearby supermarket. Not a problem in Costa Rica though. Anna got on, stowed our bags and then they came to pick me up further down the street. I don't think I have ever been so surprised as when I came out of the shop and realised the bus coming along was flashing its lights and tooting its horn for me! The taxi driver who kept opening the door to spit while driving (as you do) and his friend who randomly joined (something we later found out happens a lot in taxis here) and the mother who took pity on us and stopped to give us a lift in the rain when there was no buses who was giving her son a driving lesson at the time
Day 6: 22 October 2013
We planned to have a laid back day today so had a lie in. 7.45 was all we could manage as are still not quite used to the new time zone yet! We headed off for a walk along the beach and dipped our feet in the Pacific Ocean for the first time. Anna was keen to dive here so we went to check out the local dive schools. After booking one for tomorrow morning we headed for breakfast (more rice and beans :) ) then to the beach. It was too hot for me so I gave up and headed back to the hotel to chill in the hammock and read my book then watch some telenovelas (soaps). Total cheese but totally addictive viewing! I had spotted a chiringuito by the beach earlier called Vida Loca, so we headed there for some food and some beers.
Day 7: 23 October 2013
One week done!!! 19 to go!
The dive school said I could tag along on the boat so we headed there bright and early. There were 2 others diving along with some instructors doing some training. Quite content with reading my book and chatting to Jose the captain about things to do in Costa Rica the first dive went quickly and we headed to the second spot. At one point each day so far it has hit us how happy we are to be here and today it came while sitting in the middle of the ocean eating fresh pineapple and singing along to Bob Marley. Pura vida as the Costa Ricans would say. They use it for everything... hey, how are you, awesome! After the second dive we headed off for a quick lunch before getting the bus to our next stop Tamarindo, another popular beach resort. We found a hostel and then headed out for some sushi for dinner and Ron con Pina cocktails.
