We had a great breakfast at our B&B and wandered back down to the three bridges in the center of town. The sky was clear and the weather beautiful as we wandered through the local farmers market taking in all the sights and sounds. We decided to rent bikes and rode from one end of town to the other following the river. Bikes can be rented at the tourist information office for 10 euros a day. Not as cheap as the $1 a day as in Asia but we have jobs now so we can splurge a bit. I guess we might be flashpackers now. There is paved path that follows the river most of the way. You can then ride through the cobble stone streets that are full of shops and cafes.
Around noon Kay lead the way out of town and I was wondering where she could be headed. Next thing I know we are at the Union Brewery
The tour took us through the brewing process, bottling, packaging and the warehouse. The warehouse was incredible. It is 15 stories and fully automated. It is run with one guy at a computer and robots that move up and down the stacks picking out pallets of beverages for shipping. We actually walked through the shipping area with all the kegs and bottles while they were filling trucks. The best part was the end of the tour where they offered us a beer. Not a taste but a fully beer! When we finished that one they offered us another! This place is great. How can you beat free beers on your birthday.
We grabbed our bikes and headed into the park. We happened across a little food shop that we read about in the guide book called Hot Horse. It is literally horse meat and very popular. Well while in Rome as they say. I ordered a horse burger and a beer and we sat at the picnic table enjoying the snack. Kay was a little unsure about the burger but I thought it was good. It was very lean and tasty. (check out the photo of kay eating the burger and take a look at the logo of the truck behind here, just a coincidence I am sure). After our horse burger we rode our bikes back to the B&B for a well deserved nap.
We rode our bikes around town the rest of the afternoon and enjoyed a couple more beers along the way. Eventually we ended up at a pizza place for dinner. The pizza was really good, it must be the proximity to Italy. With bellies full of pizza, beer and horse we headed back to the B&B for a good night sleep.
Cheers

Building on the square
. She has arranged a tour as it is my birthday and she knows I like beer. I am also on a bit of a beer quest this year trying to drink 365 different beers this year. Check out my blog at www.myyearofbeer.blogspot.com . Next year you can follow my quest for a new liver after rehab. Just kidding mom. We entered the brewery and were taking into the museum section of the brewery. It is pretty cool to see the old ways they used to make the beer. The brewery has been operating at the same location for 143 years which is pretty amazing. The tour took us through the brewing process, bottling, packaging and the warehouse.
