All Aboard!!! Last stop in Asia!!!
After hanging out on the beach in Koh Ngai with our new friends Jeri, Peter, Vivian, and Charlie for 6 days, we finally made our way back up to Bangkok. We took a ferry back to the mainland, then a shared taxivan to Trang, where we caught a train back to Bangkok. We had no reservation for the train, and just walked up to the station and asked for tickets at the counter. The man behind the counter told us they were sold out of all sleeper seats, and only had 3rd class seats available. Hard upright seats in an non-air-conditioned train for 13 hours was not in the slightest bit tempting. Cranky and hungry, we walked back to town and fed our brains with a good greasy sandwich and fries. We investigated our other option - a night bus that involved a transfer. Frank jumped on the internet for a few minutes, while I returned back to the bus station. Persistent or Stubborn? Either way - it worked! I talked to someone else at the ticket counter -- and low & behold - they had 2 tickets for 2nd class sleeper train -- leaving in 10 minutes! Woohoo! I paid, ran back to town and grabbed Frank, and bolted for the train as the whistle was blowing. Lady luck was shining on us again!
Back in Bangkok, we spent the next 2 nights just hanging out, eating as much Green Thai Curry and drinking as many Chang beers as we could knowing it may be a long time before we return... We spent some time shopping for souveniers and Christmas presents. And I got a haircut, bought some flip-flop sandals and two sundresses about 12 hours before we caught our flight home to Virginia where the weather was a balmy 30 degree Fahrenheit (that is 0 degrees Celcius)! (Yes, I know that makes a LOT of sense...)
Cheers!
