We finally did it!  After being home for almost 2 months, we finally bought tickets to our next destination.

What took us so long?  First it was just traveller's burnout  and enjoying the things we missed like hot showers, comfy beds, and spending time with family and friends.  Then we were indecisive.  Then we had relationship woes.  Then we were indecisive again.  We mapped out a route that included camping in California for 2 weeks (Yosemite, Sequioa, etc), then to China, up to Mongolia, down to Korea, then back to Hong Kong, and onward to Bangkok.  But, wow, it got so complex with timing and tickets and rental cars...Oye.

So finally, we simplified and just bought tickets.  Round trip from Washington DC to Bangkok, Thailand.  Including a stopover in Southern California to go see my grandma and other loved ones.  How much?  A bargain.  60,000 miles on United Airlines per person, plus an additional $96 in taxes and fees per person.   Regular price if purchased on the United website is $2,100.06 per person.  I think we got a pretty good deal, don't you?

July 31:  Fly from Washington, DC to Los Angeles, CA
August 7:  Fly from Los Angeles, CA to Bangkok
December 19:  Fly from Bangkok to Washington DC

As usual, we have no itinerary and no plans.  Though our flight does arrive at 11pm in Bangkok, so we'll probably make reservations (ohhhh I don't like that word!) for the first nights lodging.

Any tips or recommendations?  Please send them our way!

Cheers,
Kay

We are planning a 3 month trip to Panama. What is the best backpack to take on airlines. Would like to tavel by bus, train, car, when we get there. What do you do with the straps to protect them?

Re: Help with backpacks
Hello,

I really liked the Kelty Redwing. Not many straps - the few ones it has can be tucked in.

There are photos on our packing list journal, and also a link to the backpack.

Eagle Creek also makes some nice travel bags, but they are expensive.

Cheers,
Kay

help again
We bought the backpacks. I notice you mention a bag and locks but you don't mention where you get the bag or size of that bag that you can lock. Is that to put your backpack in? How often do you need to check these backpacks?
