Where I stayed
This morning, I was awake with the alarm at 6 am, ready to meet our cab out front at 7 am. "At least the flight to Panama is shorter than the one from Georgia to here," I was thinking. "And although Panama City might not have a fabulous beach like this one, it's still exciting, right? Never seen the Panama Canal. I wish that rooster outside would shut up (there really are chickens wandering the streets around here). And just what is that noise coming from my air conditioner? Doesn't sound right, seems to be rattling or something."
Then my air conditioner kicked on. The sound was coming from outside: thunderous rain and high, gusty wind
I guess a wish of another day on the beach can come true!
Upon looking at the weather charts, you would think I materialized it just to stay another day. I saw several balls of red on the map starting at the Caymans and going as far south as Panama; our route would have gone right through the middle. What a coincidence. In fact, the National Hurricane Centre even cited this warm frontal wave as "10% chance of development of a tropical cyclone", the only alert area in the entire Caribbean at present.
I cancelled the cab, sent the request to our flight planning facility to postpone our permits for 24 hours, e-mailed the office, called my navigator to tell him the bad (good) news... and went back to sleep.
Other than the vague thought that I should be checking e-mail more often, today was another very relaxing, vacation-like day. Swam in the ocean again, which was cooler on the top 2 inches on account of the heavy rain. Swam in the pool again, which was cooler because of the lack of sunshine (it's still solidly overcast out). Perfect temperature really, not too hot but certainly not cold. Tonight we are thinking of exploring towards the town centre more for dinner.
I believe I must now go have a half-price daiquiri by the pool... well, maybe after this current cloudburst passes by.
