Friday morning was my flight to Rome. I managed to get myself out of bed at the ungodly hour of 6am (usually I have been getting up closer to 10!) and make my way to the airport, unfortunately only to find out our flight was delayed 4 hours! How rude. Fortunately, Pablo, Brian, Joanne & Bob were on the same flight so I had entertainment at least. When we finally arrived in Rome we were closer to 4 hours behind schedule, which was a pity because I had made plans to meet up with Barbara and do some sightseeing (otherwise known as shopping). By the time we got the train downtown and then made our way to the hotel, I threw my bag in my room and went for a short walk before meeting up with everyone on the terrace for drinks.

From there we made our way en masse to the restaurant (I think there was about 15 of us on the bus!) which was very inconveniently located halfway across town. Being that it was Rome, you would have thought there were restaurants near where we were staying...but alas, apparently not. Anyway, dinner was lovely, and it was nice to be able to sit and relax and get to know people a bit. Actually by the time we arrived at the facility on Saturday, I felt like we had already done a whole day of the program since some of us had spent the whole of Friday together!

Anyway, after dinner Friday night some people headed back to their hotel, while a group of us wandered over to Piazza Navona for a beer. In Geoff's case it was a 15 euro beer (I think that takes the record for the most expensive I have seen), but of course this is prime Rome real estate. Some of the guys were so kind as to buy roses for us ladies (and in my case I use the term lady fairly loosely, right L & J?), but this alerted other peddlers that there were euros to be had at our table, and soon they were flocking. There were so many roses at the end that Geoff gallantly offered a dozen to a lovely lady at a nearby table, but missed the fact that she was accompanied by her husband/boyfriend/bodyguard. No harm done though.
