Today we took the train from Cesky Krumlov to Munich, and on the way we had to switch trains in Linz, Austria. With the EU no borders policy, when you go from one EU country to another, you no longer get your passport stamped. (Sad for me, as I like to get stamps!). But in this case we were going from a non-EU country to one that is, so when the train crossed in to Austria officials came on to the train and checked passports. So, I got a stamp from Austria, even though we only stopped there for an hour! And other countries where I have spent weeks, no stamp. Funny.

Mom and I played a boardgame and talked about where we were, guessing which country we were in at certain times. Then we talked about Austria, and how neither of us knows practically anything about it, including which language they speak! (Austrian or German?). Anyway, we arrived without incident in Munich, made our way to where we are staying, and then hit the local beer hall for dinner. It was great! There are these long tables, and you just sit wherever there is space. No such thing as a table to yourself! It is crazy loud, and everyone is drinking from these huge 1 litre steins. The servers bring them out 4 or 5 in a hand, they must lift weights just to practice. I had spaetzle, which was so good and something I haven't had in years. It's sort of a german pasta, but extra tasty.

At the end of the meal our server came to settle up, I was pulling out various currencies looking for euros. I jokingly asked him if he would take Czech crowns, he said he would! Turns out he is from Czech R and is going for a visit in a few weeks. Worked out well for me as I got to get rid of my leftover money. And he was much friendlier to us after he found out we had just come from there!
