Many friends and people I have met along my travels have recommended coming to Cesky Krumlov. Now I see why! It is quite small, only 14,000 people, though over the year it attracts 1.5 million tourists! The old town is gorgeous: stone roads, medieval buildings, a castle up on the hill looking over the winding river. You can walk from one end to the other in 15 minutes, and there are virtually no cars. The hostel we are staying in is great (yep, Krumlov House, thansk B&A!), it's like a home away from home. The people are super friendly and helpful, and will give all sorts of ideas of what you can do. Many people end up staying far longer than they had planned!

We have visited the castle and gardens, where there are 3 bears in the moat around the castle. Unfortunately the Baroque theatre is closed, it's supposed to be really good. There is a great tea house, with a book of teas an inch thick that describes each one and how and where it is made. You can also have a shisha, which is a water pipe, I first had it in Turkey then in Egypt. I went swimming one afternoon at the local pool, and we went and saw a movie at the cinema. There are tons of restaurants and cafes, and loads of souvenir shops of course.

One of the things the town is known for is floating down the river, it is very windy and you can get in at one point, float for a while, and end up practically where you started! Take some drinks, lay back and enjoy the ride. Unfortunately the weather is not cooperating for us, so maybe I will have to come back :)

There is a brewery you can take a tour of, and lots of hikes in the area. So there is lots to do, or you can just relax and do nothing. One afternoon I played a new CD I got in Spain and laid on the couch, watched the rain outside and read my book. When you are in big cities all the time you are always having to figure out where you are going, how to get there, where the metro is, etc. It's so nice to be in a small place where you can just relax and really enjoy things!
