For New Year's Eve there were 11 of us at Simon & Catherine's for dinner. The theme of the evening was "Winter Olympics", and each team had to bring a sport! The evening started out with dinner and the torch lighting, then continued on to the events. The teams included: Wales, Essex, Canada, Jamaica and France. The events were hilarious, I tihnk I was laughing so hard most of the time I could hardly keep the camera straight! In one event you had to put vaseline on your nose, then dip in to a bowl of cotton balls and remove as many as possible in the time allowed. The trick is that it is easy to get the cotton ball on your nose, not so easy to get it off when you aren't allowed to use your hands!

Another event the competitors had to dig through a mountain of flour with their mouth to find 3 candies buried inside....flour + saliva = paste! Yuck! Highly funny though. Simon made a minature curling rink, complete with real ice and toothbrushes for brooms! The final event was bobsledding, in a full size cardboard bobsled down a set course. Sadly, team Jamaica (my team) did not win the bobsled event! We did watch Cool Runnings after though, and I faithfully pointed out all the sites in Calgary where the movie was filmed.

Midnight found us having a champagne toast (some with red champagne!!) and rambling our way through Auld Lang Syne. A wonderful evening all in all, and some great blackmail shots...
