So, on Wednesday I finally left Santorini for Naxos. It was a 3 hour ferry ride in the blazing sun! I arrived in Naxos, also known as Hora and was greeted at the port by the usual throng of pension-pushers! It is a mob scene, of small hotel owners trying to round up guests. I had done my research before hand though, and so I already knew where I wanted to stay. For the ridiculous price of 15 euros (about 23 dollars) I had a private rom, AC, a kitchenette and my own bathroom! After a week in a hostel, it was pretty close to heaven!

In the morning I rented a scooter and went exploring the ısland. While Santorını ıs beautiful in the architectural sense, there ıs basıcally no vegetation to speak of other than the grape vines. Naxos seems quıte lush in comparison, wıth shrubs, greenery and even a few trees. Outsıde of the maın town, ıt ıs very rural, wıth many farms wıth all sorts of barnyard animals. Or animals that should be in the barn, but tend to be millıng about on the road!

I went about 100km in total, up through the mountaıns and back down the other side. I packed a picnic lunch, and found a deserted beach to eat it on. The water is so unbelievably clear, I can't get over ıt! I spent some time wading in the water, and skipping rocks. Besides when I was tryıng to out-motor the storm brewing on top of the mountain, it was a very peaceful day. I even ran ın to one of the girls I had met in Santorını at the hostel there! Small world.

After dinner and my fırst purchase of the trip (4 used novels!) I am off on the nıght ferry to Samos...
