First things first, I arrived safe and sound! The flight was alright, but I have no idea how anyone over 5'6" survived! My knees were killing me being crammed in there, and I am not exactly what you would call tall! Other than that, I sat beside an 82 year old gentleman from Calgary, who was quite chatty. He was off to visit his 2 children in London for a month. I think I pretty much got his whole life story, but it took up lots of time which was great. Lisa & Janeil: first movie on the plane was Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants!! I finally saw it!

The descent into London was gorgeous. The first while was low lying clouds for as far as you could see, it looked like a bed of cotton candy. Then it opened up, and you could see everything as we landed. Unfortunately since I had hardly slept in days, and managed a total of one hour's sleep on the plane, I spent most of the day sick to my stomach. I took the train from Gatwick to Victoria station, where I stored my luggage for the day as I wasn't meeting Andrea (my hostess) until she finished work at 6:30. I had no plans of what to do when I arrived, so I just walked out the front door of the train station and figured I would see what was there! Well, for all of you who know London, there is quite a bit to see right there. I wandered around Buckingham Palace, Westminster Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, the Parliament Buildings and Big Ben.
I saw the London Eye (huge ferris wheel type thing) but have no desire to go on it!! And then I wandered around St. James Park, which is a pretty area right next to Buckingham Palace, with a small lake and tons of geese, ducks, swans, and pelicans. I even had a bit of a snooze lying in the sun!

Afterwards I met up with Andrea, and headed back to her place in East Ham. She had a swimming lesson to go to, and I passed out on the couch watching the news about 10 minutes after she left! I had a good night's sleep though, and feel much better this morning. Today I am off to the National Gallery!! I'm almost giddy with excitement, 2 of my favorite paintings are here. Eeek!

The parts of London that I have seen are quite pretty, and everyone has been very friendly and helpful. This might be because I have only been in tourist areas, but I'm not sure. It was a bit funny to see everyone driving on the "wrong" side of the road, and they have signs painted on the roads for the tourists saying "look left" to tell you which way the traffic is coming from! Which is a good thing, because people drive very fast on these narrow roads.

The weather is fabulous, it's supposed to be 23 today and 25 tomorrow. And Athens is supposed to be 35 when I arrive on Monday!
That's all for now, I'm happy to be here and having a great time so far!
