I search for more of the castles today. I could take a much more direct route towards Austria but that would not be nearly as interesting. There’s no sign of the first castle marked on the map, but I’m already past where it should be so maybe I just missed it. The next point is a windmill, which turns out to be only the ruins, but still an interesting place to stop for a snack.
Later on I pass a “water wheel.” I’m not sure if it can be called that as rather than being turned by the water, an electric motor was driving the wheel and just making a big splash in the water.
At the end of a road which isn’t going where I want it to I find an artificial lake. It seems to be a fishery, and the fish are milling about in the water. Trails can be seen all across the lake of fish swimming near the surface and every now and then one jumps out. This might provide an explanation for the water wheel earlier, to keep the water oxygenated for the fishes.
Back at the town there’s a beautiful young couple having wedding shots done. I ask one of the guys when they finish which way the bicycle route goes and they send me in the right direction. The route isn’t well marked and disappears in a barrage of different trials in the forest. I know generally which direction I need to go and follow the roads that lead that way. I eventually end up at the shore of the lake right where I wanted to be.
The water doesn’t look to clean so I don’t go swimming, but stop anyway to take a break and patch my tubes up. I patch another slow leak in my rear tire, and patch the spare tube from the Zakopane incident.
When I make it to Zvikovske pod Hradi, the campground there doesn’t exist anymore. The girl at the community pool directs me to one a few kilometres from town. The only thing the campground bar has to eat is some pre-made sandwiches. They may already be a day old but they taste better than the sandwiches I prepare for myself.
