A couple days rest in Prague, although it is difficult to call walking around the city all day rest. Prague is a beautiful city, but packed to the bursting point with tourists. The first day I wander around with no particular aim, no doubt along with several thousand other tourists. I see old town, climb the clock tower, and visit the castle and St. Vitus Cathedral among other things.
I eat dinner in an almost empty restaurant on old town. The chicken wings are good and reasonably priced. It isn’t evident why the place might be so empty until the bill comes. The little dipping bowl of ketchup for the fries was 35 kron. With the bill being a bit more than I expected I’m left with hardly any money after unsuccessfully finding a Deutsche bank earlier in the day. I have exactly enough left to get dessert at McDonalds on the way back.
The next day I head out on my bicycle in order to cover more area and see some places I haven’t been to yet. The park on the hill across the river proves to not be a whole lot more than a rigorous hill climb. The garden on top is nice, but a little dry. The view is ok. The next destinations are a little more unusual including the Lennon wall, and a giant metronome. The graffiti on the Lennon wall is rather lacking in inspiration, and a little disappointing.
Today I aim for a better dinner experience by finding a more local hangout for a restaurant. The first one, on the “shot out eye” street, is a little too local and doesn’t have much selection of grub. A restaurant just down the street does the trick though. It is being run by only one waitress and she is extremely busy, though no one minds. After finishing a giant pork knuckle I head back out to see how Prague looks at night.
