We departed Lake Nakuru after breakfast and drove further along the Rift Valley to the Sarova Mara Tented Camp inside the Maasai Mara Game Reserve. We arrived in time for lunch. The grounds of the lodge are the largest of the ones that we've been to. There were around 80 tents and some of them were quite luxurious! Richard Branson had stayed there. He and his company Virgin Airways teamed up with the Sarova chain to rehab the local Maasai schools. The Maasai practice FGM (aka Female Genital Mutilation). It is such a brutal and devastating practice. I hope that one day it will no longer be practiced.
Anyhow, we walked the grounds of the lodge and we saw a couple of Dik Diks. We didn't see any monkeys here, but I'm sure they were around somewhere! We had an afternoon game drive and we seen a group of lions! There were the young males and several babies! We seen a fresh, half eaten cub that didn't survive. The momma lion ate it. Our guide Michael said that he thought the lions didn't look as healthy as they could. Apparently they weren't getting enough food. It was surreal seeing them in their element!  We enjoyed another great buffet style meal. They offered up some true African foods, but I couldn't bring myself to eat the whole goat they had twirling on a spit. We opted to go on a full day game drive the next day and so we turned in a bit early again. The lodge will prepare all of us a box lunch to take with us.
