Hello all,
Thoughout this old world "boys will be boys", and the
boys in Germany, and yours truly, are no different. I want to thank
all, the ladies, staff, and other quests at Barnds Sauna, ie, Brothel,
#28 Lichenberg. And, special thanks to Babsie and Monika, the time
spent there rocked. Truly a great 8 hours of lounging, drinking,
eating and a little shagging.
If Barnd's is good enough for the German locals, It was more then good
enough for me. After all, I came to Europe to experience all it has to offer.
Next,
a quick Taxi ride back to Hennef, and train ride to Koln, where I
cheeked into the Station Hostel about a block away from the main
station around 2300 hrs(1130PM)
Up early the next morning, back
to the main station. breakfast, a quick trip into a store for a throw
away camera. I really wanted to take pictures of the giant
cathedral next to the train station, but it just would not stop pouring
rain.
So, off by train to the Rhine river and to the town
of St. Gore, where on arrival I hoped on the local tour bus, as it was
the only way to stay dry, and toured the town and its huge castle.
After the tour I checked on the river ship lines schedule to
Bacharach. I also inquired about the Hostels in St Goar and in
Bacharach. I had noticed in St Goar, the hostel was a few blocks
from the center of town, the info lady, told me that the one in
Bacharach was about the same distance. So I caught the next boat to
Bacharach.
The hour and half boat ride was cold and wet as the
rain would not let up. It was impossible to see, let alone get any
pictures of the castles along the route. I do have cause to
wonder though, as there were some 30 Japanese tourist on board
with their cameras just a clicking away. At what, I had no idea.
So,
I got of the boat at Bacharach, and asked the info lady there
about directions to the Hostel. She pointed to the castle,
holy shit! What the woman back at St Gore forgot to mention to me
was, yea the hostels were about the same distance from town, but this
one was straight up!
In pouring rain, yes the heavens had really
opened up, some twenty minutes later, I don't know how many hundreds of
steps later, it would have wasted more energy counting, and at least
three pauses and me wondering why I was continuing on, I arrived
at the hostel.
The hostel itself, was great, I got a private
room, all you could eat dinner, and breakfast buffet for 29 euro's($40)
I had about an hour before dinner, so up and I do mean up to my
room for a shower, dry clothes and a 20 minute nap.
Dinner,
the best meal so far, and word from the hostel proprietor, the bar
was to open in an hour. She also told us that if we were to go into the
village to be back before they lock up at ten thirty. Yea right!
So on up to the room. Quick and dirty: I never made it back down
to the bar. It was lights out for this boy.
Ciao, Skip
