Day 49 (July 27th): Arica, Chile
We settled into our hostel, "Sunny Days", a veritable home away from home. It was run by a friendly laid back kiwi Ross, and his Chilean "kiwi" wife Beatriz. The hostel was full of kiwis, so Fraser could quite happily reminisce with them about NZ and the possibility of winning this year's world cup (that's rugby for non-commonwealth citizens).

seaside restaurant
We had a celebration lunch at a posh seaside restaurant as Fraser found out that morning he had passed both of his CIMA exams. The restaurant specialised in seafood, and our seafood meal was a welcome change to having only pasta, pizza or a truck load of beef (even good beef can get too much if you have it every second day!)Taxi to Tacna
We left the next day for Tacna, Peru in a taxi-collectivo (a very large retro American car) with two other Dutch people from the hostel. This is the fastest, easiest and safest way to cross the border, rather than taking the buses which run infrequently. From there we caught a bus to Arequipa.
