During my time in Zimbabwe, I was unable to use travelpod as the internet connection was soooo slow!
Here is a taste of what I got up too:
I went to Zimbabwe, Antelope Park for two months in June and July 2005... The weather was chilly at night, but lovely during the day - sometimes a bit windy...
If you go during their summer time - you will be lucky enough to swim with the elephants if you go to Antelope Park... the water was too cold when I was there to do that.
I found Zimbabwe to be very safe, I was picked up from the airport... the airport staff are nice and helpful (I landed in Bulawayo).
Antelope Park was wonderful, all of my food, drinks, bedding, room is included in the volunteer price,(alcohol and fizzy drinks cost you extra!)
I loved the project so much, It was very very hands on, I was lucky enough to get to feed the 3 week old cubs (thats way I am going back in June 2006; they will be one years old on 4 July!)
One of the cubs, Penduka, was ill while I was there, he managed to eat the teat from his bottle - it had to be surgically removed... I helped to nurse him, I was even there when they removed his stitches... he was a very good cub!
Sadly the bull elephant, Shungu died while I was there, it was very sad as they fed him to the lions, but that is the circle of life!
When the lion cubs eat you get to watch them from inside there enclosure... they are harmless, they growl if you get too close, but that is part of the data capture you have to take to know who is possessive over their food etc.
