Hope everyone is enjoying our recount of this trip....if you would leave a comment for us, we are curious to see who is following us around Europe. Thanks!! On to more exciting things......
Our morning in Bacarach started with a wonderful walking tour with local retired schoolmaster Herr Jung. He grew up and still lives in Bacarach. We walked thru the town and learned much of the history of the town. The most touching stories were he recounts of being a young boy during WWII. I think we all had tears in our eyes. We climbed up above the town among the vineyards and a gorgeous view of the Rhine valley. His stories of growing up in Germany and the town he loves, ended all too soon.
Back on the bus for a short ride to St Goar and the Rhinefel's castle. It was a short walk up to the castle to meet our guide, Gunther. The castle was built in 1245 and was one of the largest castles on the Rhine. We walked along the outside wall and thru some of the tunnels. The tunnels were definately for the shorter people of that time! On to the dungeons and the huge cellar were all the food was kept.
After the castle we were in search of a brat and beer. We found both and ate outside on the pedestrian mall. It started to rain but that would not dampen our sprits. After walking around St Goar we caught a boat up the Rhine back to Bacharach. Jennifer our guide, brought along some apple, cherry, and rhurbarb kooken....german pastry....very yummy!!!!
A little shopping to be done at Bacharach. Steve picked up a wood burned and painted box for cards for his poker night. We've decided to collect patches from each country for our backpacks so those were picked out also.
Restaurants were closed on Wed so we had dinner at the hotel. Steve and I split some Schnitzel and called it a night.

Yo!
I'm still reading, and enjoying it. Keep up the good work. Cooler weather here. Only in the 60s today. My excitement: getting called for jury duty, and a new garage door installed today. Kids are fine. Josh plays a baseball game on Sunday, Sarah hanging in there at school-math proving to be a challenge. Band chair test next Thursday. And tell mom we are eating our way thru a box of peaches,yum-o! Wondering dad's opinion of Sarah Palin?
I'm readin...
Well, sort of. I skim.. :)
The Dark Side
We are all reading and enjoying. It's almost like being there. Have fun and keep us posted.
