Today, we took the subway to the Ferry Station. There we boarded a ferry to the Statue of Liberty. We had tickets to spend time in the pedastal only because going to the top was sold out 3 months before. The 4 important points are: 7 points on the crown for the 7 seas and continents, the flame, book and broken shackles for freedom.

I did a Jr. Park Ranger program which involved learning about the statue and answering a lot of questions. This was like doing homework ! The statue is a gift from France to America as a symbol of freedom. I had to turn in my work to a Park Ranger who made me take an oath and then gave me a badge. I got an ice cream as a reward.

Then we took another ferry to Ellis Island. This is where immigrants used to enter the USA. Now, most immigrants enter through California. New immigrants had to pass a test which had tricky questions. I took the test and passed it easily. I did another Jr.Park Ranger program on Ellis Island.

Afterwards we went back to New York and visited Ground Zero. Over 2 years, they have built supporting piers and a few levels. It is still a sad place.

For dinner, we took the subway to a Greek restaurant and had some yummy food. I read my book, Butterfly Lion, by Michael Morpurgo, which is about a white lion and a boy.
