We finaly got around the biggest lake in the world Though the map shows a straight line - it was a lot longer than that - all the way around the Gitchee Goomee (Chippewa word meaning Big Lake!) After leaving Kenora, we stopped in Thunder Bay, which is a bit of a disapointment. The campground we stayed at had pretty yucky bathrooms. It's one redeaming feature was the Trowbridge falls. We kids would "explore" the slow falling water and rocks.
So after Thunder bay and all that, we headed out to Nipagone where we stayed one night. We then start out for Sault Ste. Marie. This town spans across the connecting river, between Lake Superior and Lake Ontario. THe locks where really neat to see, lowering and raising the boats to the proper water levels. The bridge to cross over to the Michigan side was a little scary, but we made it across. The MIchigan side was much more set up for tourist, with cutsie shops and free museums. We also saw the most magnificent Mini Golf ever, but it was 30 degrees, a bit hot for standing in the sun waiting for Baby to putt. We found out that Sir Elton John was playing at the center the night we stayed over. Mama would have loved to go, till we found out that the tickets had been sold out in 5 minutes, in February! All in all, Sault Ste. Marie was really memorable, quite enjoyable, and really hot.
