So I spent a few days in Chicago because my train from Detroit to Jef City MO didn't go straight through. So I decided I might as well visit this city a little and could afford to stay at the hostel a few days because my cheap $50 train ticket was free because I complained about the 3 hour delay into Los Angelas in Sept (It's all written here my love). I ate some raw food, went on a long tour of old skyscrappers in the bitter cold, got a really bad blister, did a vegan potluck at Quimby's, visited a boring record store in wicker park, walked to the lake and saw the big light ferris wheel in the deserted tourist haven, went to the museum of contemporary art and totally messed up visting the Video Data Bank. Have to chalk up another failed archiving connection with that last one. Just totally blew it...
Myopic Books is like my favourite place there now. Well, Quimby's is fucking magnificent - after doing a thing there where only 3 people bought my book, they gave me a gift certificate for $15! But Myopic is more my pace because it's is both cute and cosy and large and spacious with plenty of places to sit and read and a great purring cat. I spent a lot of time there after my Quimby's event because I just COULDN'T find any hint of the punk scene or good movie place. Obviously they exist but damn it was hard to find anything.
I was actually doing a no sugar (not even fruit), wheat or yeast diet, trying to make myself a little healthier. It was stupid of me to do this after I planned a fucking CANDY POTLUCK at Quimby's but I'm hoping that no one really noticed. There was only about 10 people there and only 3 brought sweets. But it was fun and eventually everyone was chatty.
The hostel was like the one in Vancouver - huge and clean and plenty of bathrooms. An absolutely HUGE kitchen with like 3 HUGE stoves... my mind conjured up ways to make it useful. Lord knows the hostel residents weren't using it...
My train rides were long and uneventful. I was frustrated when we pulled into St. Louis at 1pm and sat there for 2 hours. We got into Jefferson City at 6:30. Jef CIty is an hour and half away from St. Louis... Amtrak has a few things to learn from VIA...
Oh. I took some pics on my stupid little digital camera that everyone marvels at but it's being a fuck and I think I will throw it away. I keep taking pictures and then it keeps not turning on. When it finally comes on it loses everything... grrr
