Hello again.

Spent the last couple of days in Bukit Lawang in Sumatra. It is a small place that is right along side the jungle. It is also the place on the Island where Orangutans can be found. After we got there and checked in, we looked in to going on a Jungle trek to get close up to the Orangutans.

The next day we went on the trek, leaving the hotel at 8. After about an hour and a half to an hour we saw our first Orangutan. Was a big old male that was following a female through the Jungle. Or guide said that he hadn't seen this male for over a year. That could have been fibs, but was still pretty good. After this we found another smaller female orangutan the proceeded to feed it Bananas by hand. Was pretty cool. Once fed we headed off in another direction then found young male, then we fed him bananas. Pretty much an amazing start to the day. We then trekked through the jungle which was an awesome experience and stopped at a river for dinner. Whilst eating dinner we saw a weird looking turtley thing in the river. Was border line ugly! After lunch we headed off again and came across another Orangutan. Which was a pregnant female one. With the low numbers of orangutan, along with the fact that they are the slowest reproducing mammals (8 years between births) it was a pretty good find! All that done we headed back to the hotel got some lunch then sorted out our trip to Lake Toba, where we are now. It was formed when the last super volcano went boom. It left a huge fresh water lake and a massive island in the middle. The island (Samosir) is where we are now. So until next time
