Hi Farflung Sister and Nearby Sisters,

I was motivated to post an entry by taking some photos at Tammi's Rosh Hashanah lunch: thank you Tammi! It was a hot but pleasant event. As ever, the food and company made the holiday meaningful... We have been trying to do our tzedakah by contributing to kiva.org, but, of course, on rosh hashanah the site was not ready. Kiva, for those who haven't heard about it, is a micro-lending organization through which we can make small loans ($25 increments, I believe) to individuals in developing countries. They slowly repay the loans, and you can go on an re-loan the money to someone else. However, because Bill Clinton talked them up in his new book, and the organization was featured on Oprah (we heard about it in Kiplinger's, of all places), they had run out of people who needed loans and were vetted! However, within a day they had more needy folks, so we are ready to make our loans. We thought it would be good for the kids to pick out people to loan to as their own projects.

Anyway, school is off to a good start for E & J. Eva is making a good transition. She has a lot to do, with school, piano lessons and practice, soccer practice and games 3X/ week, and religious school 3x/week. So far, no meltdowns. Well, small ones. I've encouraged her to ride the bus with friends, and she and her friend will walk over to TBI together on Mondays & Wednesdays. I can't see driving to El Roble all the time, and the extra independence is good. I will keep you posted on bat mitzvah stuff as we go on in the process. I'm happy about Paul Buch, our cantor (Tammi knows him well), acting as her teacher on Mondays--I think that will be a good thing.

I finished up an article for Oxy's magazine; when it's published, maybe I can link it! Cool!
