At this point i realized that i should have paid more attention when going up the mountain because it's very easy to get mixed up and lost in the woods. So i tried to stay as close as possible to the way i think i came, when about halfway back to the path (the path is about a quarter of a mile from the bottom of the hill) i hear a little boy yelling way off to my right somewhere. Normally i wouldn't have thought too much of it, but then i realized that i was in the middle of the woods and no one else should really be around for a while. So i decided to follow the yelling and see what was going on.
I tried my best to walk in a straight line towards the yelling so i could just turn around and walk back, and when i got to the yelling i found a little 6 year old boy named Luke, who was lost in the woods. After doing a little calming him down i asked him how he got lost and he told me that his family had gone up to see the "scenic overlook" and that on the way back he stopped to take a picture of a bug (or bunny... this wasn't really clear through the hysterics) and when he had tried to catch up he'd gotten into the woods and didn't know where he was. It was a relief to me that he was talking to me and did not turn around and run when he saw a strange person like me coming to him
So i turn around an walk back in a straight line towards the way i came, with Luke close behind me, and was able to recognize the area well enough to make our way back down to the path, this only took about 20 minutes. Lukes father and 2 brothers were at the path looking for him and yelling alot, and i'm not sure how long Luke had been lost but i'm sure whatever amount of time he was lost +20 minutes getting back probably seemed like alot longer than what it was for his family. But they were all happy to see him, although i didn't see the mother until i was leaving in my car because she was at the rest area asking if anyone had seen him. I'm sure she was happy to have him back too, and from the looks of things the family is expecting a 4th addition.
In anycase it was nice to be able to help the little guy out, and to see the family happy. I guess going off the beaten path and climbing up a mountain sometimes puts you right where you need to be at the right time. =)
All stories aside, the pictures are all of the trip to Minneapolis, and some of them are pretty good, and yes, i'm posting the pictures i took from on top of the mountain even though they don't hardly do justice to the way things really looked up there.
Hopefully my trip will continue to grace me with some good stories, interesting people, and lots of pictures so that i can share them with you all.
