Our lost day
Entry 12 of 32 | show all | print this entry |
Our flight into Manila was to its central airport, but our flight out was from a city 80km ourside Manila, Clark. We needed to leave our hostel by 11:30 to get to the bus station by 12 to take our bus to clark. Now, the Air Asia website says they run a bus direct from Manila to the airport, but I guess its only Mon-Fri, so we needed to take a bus from Manila to a city outside clark then take a cab to the airport, no big deal, if the bus takes as long as it should.
The ticket guy on the bus said it would only take 1 hour untill the place we needed to get off. So 45-50 minutes I asked if it was getting close, he responds, its 1 and half hour longer...this is why we leave early.
Actually the bus only took another 40 minuts, puting us back on schedule. We couldnt find a taxi in this small town so we took a jeepney (wikipedia it) direct to the airport
Our flight left about 40 minutes delayed (which I learn is common on Air Asia flights)
I guess the Kota Kinabalu Terminal 2 is the only airport stupid enough to not have either any ATM or Exchange counter. So we got ripped off paying 6US$ for the 20 minute cab to the hostel.
After getting settled we asked the desk if they could call Kinabalu Park to see if they had any rooms on the hotel 3/4 up the mountain we planned to climb, Mount Kinabalu. As I thought, they were full (I emailed them a month ago and got nothing). I read on the internet that if you show up you may get a cancellation or no-show and be able to stay, so though Mackenzie was reluctant, thats what we planned on doing.
We went out for an uneventful night around Kota Kinabalu city, had to wake up early to go to the park the next morning.
