Oct 18, 2007

This morning we had to move to a new hotel. Since it is the Rugby World Cup, finding a hotel has been a bit difficult. I was able to get a hotel around the corner from where we've been for the night, but we had to move out from our old hotel. We moved there and will be back for the remainder of our time tomorrow morning. A bit of an inconvinience, but luckily it is only about half a block away.

We did that, then made our way out to the area of town where another big church is located: the Sacre Coeur (Sacred Heart).f It is a beautiful church that has some semblance to the Taj Mahal (I thought). I've included a photo of it including photos of some of the gargoyles (which I really like).

We walked around the neighborhood quite a bit and eventually made our way back to the hotel to take a 2 hr nap. Then we got up and made our way to another part of town that has some very interesting sights. We visited a cemetery (I know it sounds kinda depressing, but it was actually quite interesting). I've included a couple of photos of some of the interesting tombs. We also visited the Luxemburg gardens (the photos are proof that I am, in fact, here).

Dinner tonight was even better than last night and ½ as inexpensive. Paul had escargot, duck confit and chocolate mousse. The blend of butter, garlic and parsley in the escargot gave it an earthly, delectable flavor that forced you to sop up the remains with crusty bread. The duck confit must have been cooked for days, as it just fell off the bone. And the chocolate mousse was dark chocolate with little milk, just as Paul likes it. I had pate (two very delicious slabs of it) which I enjoyed with bread, cornichons and black olives (along with salad). I had the beef in a red wine reduction which just burst with flavors of cabernet, onions and beef stock. For desert....I'm not sure what I had, but it was white (like marshmellow dollops that had been whisked and then baked) in a white wine sauce. It, too, was delicious. Oh yeah, and we killed a bottle of wine with it. Yum, yum, yum. I'm inspired to try some of these dishes when we get back home.

Hope your day/week has been good as mine. When you sit down for dinner tonight, bon appetite!
