10/113/2007

This morning I woke up at the crack of 10:30 after having gone to bed last night at 10pm. You know, I really love my sleep-and it's even better in Paris. The coffee aroma wafting up from the street enveloped me and there was no reason to wake up. I thought I was having coffee all morning long! I did manage to drag myself up the by around 11 or so and made my way to the street for a café au lait and an almond croissant. And it was yummy. I had tears in my eyes from the sheer pleasure. I had to do the real touristy thing and take a boat ride on the Seine. It was a bit on the tacky touristy side, but the views were really nice. I've included some photos. I then made it to the bohemian and Jewish part of town. It is so much more exciting than other parts of Paris. I had lunch there and then ran into a Jewish elementary school that had a pair of very interesting heads of bulls on the wall (I've included a photo).

I found some wonderful delis that I hope to try tomorrow-it's the Sabbath today so all the Jewish shops were closed, but they'll surely be open tomorrow. Just thinking about the falafel sandwich I plan to eat makes my mouth water. It also seems that there's a pastry shop on every corner....it's hard to make it too far when you're stopping at each and trying something new. (Those who know me really well know I'm not kidding!) I think in a couple of days I'm going to start waddling down the street.

The number of people just walking the streets on this Saturday has been astounding. It's like everyone has taken to the streets. The fact that this is the first weekend of the World Rugby Cup doesn't help matters. There are people from all over the world coming for this event. Most of them with huge beer bellies and those very nice rugby shirts (with a mixture of clashing colors on them and symbols and words that don't mean a thing to me). I suspect there should be a brawl or two at the bars tonight...I'm staying away, though if asked, I'm rooting for France to win! Yeah the Marie Antoinettes (I hope that's what they're called!)!

So, off to a light dinner tonight. It's mass at Notre Dame du Paris (Nuestra Senora de Paris) in the morning, a walk along the river and then around the Louvre and lunch in the Jewish Quarter tomorrow. I may bump into one of our long lost family (I'm convinced Grandma Maria has some Jewish ancestors).

Til tomorrow, Au revoir!

A Patisserie Party!
Jorge, thanks for including us in your travels! Believe it or not we feel your tarmac pain while sitting on our couch at home. :) Leave your travel and credit card woes behind you and fully enjoy the City of Lights. Keep us in the loop and while you're dropping into all those lovely bakeries eat a chocolate croissant for me, Chris and Grace! Bonsoir! XOXO Love, Nicole, Chris and Gracie

Re: A Patisserie Party!
Alas, life has gotten much better since a few days ago! How is Gracie settling in to her new family?
